You want to have the highest quality exterior trim on your home only – and that is exactly what Foamcore Mouldings is committed to providing you with. We back up this claim by giving you with the information you need to understand our products; how our products compare to other manufacturers, and a 10-year warranty*. Our products are composed primarily of 3 parts: Styrofoam, Alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh, and Cementitious coating.
- Styrofoam
When it comes to Styrofoam, recycled content tends to worsen and fall apart quicker. Per se, reprocessed Styrofoam is not suitable for moldings because they should sit on your exterior walls for years to come. That is why Foamcore Mouldings’ Styrofoam is sourced from one of the planet’s leaders in EPS manufacturing, known worldwide for producing quality Expanded Polystyrene. We acquire only Type-I Virgin EPS – that is Styrofoam that weighs 1 pound per cubic foot (light weight), and is made with 0% recycled EPS.
- Alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh
Regular fiberglass mesh can disintegrate over the years from exposure to the alkali in all cement products. Foamcore uses fiberglass mesh that is specifically coated with an alkali-resistant compound so it will last all the way through the life of the product. The purpose of the fiberglass mesh is to reinforce the cement coating and provide a plank underneath of the coating, which helps to maintain the integrity as the molding bends or is obstructed by objects.
- Cement System
The final look is the most important aspect for you, and because of this, Foamcore takes vast measures to ensure the coating lasts as long as possible. Foamcore’s exterior trim products are using a 2-coat system. After the fiberglass mesh is applied, we place the moldings on a production line that passes the merchandise through an extrusion machine. This machine applies a uniform, continuous coating of specially modified cement containing fiberglass filaments as well as acrylics – at a thickness of 1/16th of an inch. Once the molding comes out the other side, it is placed on a drying rack in a climate-controlled environment and permitted to cure for 24 hours. When the 24 hours has passed, the molding is placed again on the manufacturing line with a larger opening to apply the second 1/16th inch layer.
This 2 coat process gives us total quality control. Through testing, we have found that coatings applied in a single stretch cure unequally and as a result, are more vulnerable to cracking.
